Memory 01 – Cape Bonavista

First of all, you’ll be entering a ship battle sequence. You’ll have the chance to control pirate ‘Edward Kenway‘ and, feel ‘real ship combatting’ and learn the basic controls of firing canons of the ship you control. The instructions will be given to you, all you need is to follow them properly. Note- These instructions are really important for beginners, so make sure to understand them properly or you might get frustrated at the very beginning of the game.

Chasing the Assassin

After your ship was destroyed you’ll have to swim to the shore of a nearby island. Then, you will meet the Assassin, Duncan Walpole. And then he will despise you and run away saying not to follow him. So obviously, you’ll have to chase him down.

At this moment you can go after him as the objective say, or to explore a bit. But we recommend the first option, chase after him. You’ll be experiencing the free-running system in Black Flag by now, be adapted to it quickly because it’s much more important for you. While chasing the Assassin, just make sure to synchronize the island’s viewpoints. (We thoroughly advise you to do so, and that will unlock those viewpoints as ‘fast-travel locations’, you’ll be able to return to those places anytime in the future)

Just keep following the assassin and perform a leap of faith in the viewpoint near the huts located. After that, the assassin will become hostile and shoot you. (So that’s the end of him…) Then the objective will change and will display as ‘Kill the Assassin’. (Don’t feel bad about it, just do what they say…) Follow the basic instructions on combat and kill the coward. (The easiest fight you’ll find in this game)

To Havana

After collecting the loot from Mr. Walpole, Edward will put on the ‘Assassin Robe’ (Oh…you are an Assassin now). Then you’ll have to leave the area to collect the reward of Mr. Walpole.

On the beach, you’ll see some British guards torturing a merchant. Hide in the foliage and kill the guards (Or just kill them in direct combat) to save the merchant.

Edward and Stede

Note- There are several items nearby waiting to be collected. You can just come back to collect them if you want or collect them before leaving with the merchant (Stede Bonnet).

Stede can’t steer his schooner, so you will be the one to accompany him out of the bay safely to Havana sail through the rocky bay and you will complete the first memory of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag.

Present Day Story – Abstergo Industries

After you complete the first memory sequence, you’ll witness the present-day story at the ‘Abstergo Industries’ (Yes, you are working for ‘The Templars’) You’ll meet Melanie Lemay and she will be your guide in the present-day story. Make sure to follow her instructions correctly. Follow her and her instructions and you’ll get to see some familiar faces along the way. Go to your workstation and log in back to Animus to continue to play as Edward Kenway.
