From today’s article we are going to look into the fifth major installment of Assassin’s Creed franchise. Assassin’s Creed III has took a huge step in the development of the series. Let’s talk about innovative ideas can be found in this game.

Development of Assassin’s Creed III

As always, this game is an action-adventure game according to the game categorizations. Assassin’s Creed III is a product of Ubisoft Montreal. The game is available to play in PlayStation 3, Microsoft Windows and Xbox 360.

As we mentioned earlier articles, first Assassin’s Creed games was developed using the game engine Anvil and this game, Assassin’s Creed III uses an upgraded version of it, AnvilNext Engine.

Gameplay Experience in Assassin’s Creed III

Like previous games in the series, this game mainly focuses on the conflict of Assassins and Templar Order. However because of several reasons this game is so special to the fans. What are those reasons?

The World Setting

The story take us back to 18th century British occupied America. Player can experience the events of American Revolution. As previous games, this game is too a open world game with third person perspective one.

From this game, player can explore the cities of Boston, New York and American frontier also there are some small settlements such as Concord and Lexington which have a great importance in American history.

Newly included Naval Missions allows player to visit some islands in Caribbean sea too.

Historical figures

We know that, basically the game’s main characters are fictional. But we can meet some historical characters. George Washington, Samuel Adams, Israel Putnam, Edward Braddock, John Pitcairn and much more.

New Additions and Improvements

Hunting and Looting Animals

The game’s open world is much bigger than any previous game’s cities. The protagonist Connor can explore the huge wilderness of American Frontier. Hunting Animals included for the first time in the franchise. (Only available for Connor).

Naval Combats

For the first time in the franchise, player can control a ship and explore the vast sea. Connor’s ship (named Aquila) can be used to engage in various naval combats. This concept was not available in any previous game of the series. Naval Combat system plays huge roles in games like Assassin’s Creed IV : Black Flag and Assassin’s Creed: Rouge.

New Gamplay Mechanisms in Assassin’s Creed III

Free running System is much simpler than previous games. Tree climbing, mountain climbing is added to the game. Combat system is also modified in this game. (Close combat is much more easier)

Player can have various types of weapons which includes native American weapons such as bow and arrows and tomahawk. This game also introduces the Rope Dart which is used to kill enemies from higher places.

Crafting system and renovation system is improved greatly that the player can renovate the Devenport Homestead.

The game features weather simulations like fog, rain and even snow.

The Story of Assassin’s Creed III

Present Day

After events of Assassin’s Creed Revelations, Desmond and his crew of assassins travel to New York to gain access precursor sites. There, Desmond relives the memories of his ancestors using Animus.

The First Templar Protagonist

In the first part of the game, Desmond relives the memories of Haythem Kenway, a British Templar agent. However Desmond didn’t know that he is experiencing the memories of a templar.

Sent to America by the Templar Grand Master Reginald Birch, Haythem helps native Americans by killing slave traders with the help of several other templars and Haythem’s most trustworthy follower, Charles Lee . Then he makes a contact with a native women Ziio, who helps him to find the precursor temple. Two develop a relationship and Ziio gives birth to Haythem’s child  Ratonhnhaké:ton ( Let’s call him Connor, shall we?).

In the final memory sequence of Haythem, Desmond experiencing the Charles Lee’s induction to the templar order. And at that moment Desmond notices that Haythem Kenway is a templar.

Native American Assassin Connor Kenway

The story shifts to the child of Ziio and Haythem. After the attack on his home village, young Connor goes to meet old assassin mentor, Achilles. Retired Assassin, Achilles doesn’t accept Connor as his disciple firstly.

After some attempts Achilles decides to raise Connor as his son and an Assassin. After killing some templars to aid revolutionaries, Connor meets his father Haythem. Two of them decide to hunt a templar too. Connor accuses Haythem for destroying his village. ( But templars never ordered to destroy native villages)

During Connor’s fight against templars, he eliminated many templars who were his father’s trusted agents. As Haythem Kenway is now the Templar Grand Master of American Rite, Connor hunts down his own father.

Finally he kills his main enemy Charles Lee who appointed as the grand master after Haythem’s death. Connor obtains Haythem’s key to precursor temple and buries in Achilles’s true son’s grave.

Desmond’s Journey

After some fights with present day templars ( In order to save his father ). Desmond focuses on saving the earth from 2012 solar flare. Then Desmond meets Juno and Minerva give Desmond two options, first one will destroy earth’s most humans and remainders will follow Desmond’s leadership to rebuild. Other sacrifice himself to protect the humanity. And Desmond takes the second one.


Despite some critics on Connor’s character (according to many gamers), the game is basically offers players a fair amount of new and fascinating experience. It’s definitely since it’s story, setting is far more greater.
