Understanding computer gaming is easy. A game can be described as a type of computer program that uses computer-related hardware and software. Under the classification of software, computer games fall under the category of ‘Application Software’ and commonly state as ‘PC Games’. While there are some other types of gaming like mobile, console let’s talk about computer gaming from this article.
Why we play Computer Games?
For a person who works the whole day, a game can be used as a way of relaxation, get away from the monotonous life cycle. However, these computer games are doing many things in our lives which may be harder to see when you think lightly about them. Basically, most of the kids today had played computer games. Many say that the easiest way to attract someone to a computer system is through a computer game. It gives a basic idea of how the computer system works. However, this enhances the player’s memory, logical thinking, and calculation abilities other than giving the player fun.
Categories of Computer Games
From the “Spacewar!” in 1961 the story of computer gaming has come a long way, and it will continue to grow in future years too. 3D technology ensured virtual reality scenarios in computer games. These technological features gave new concepts to computer games, giving them various categories. For better understanding computer games let’s look at those.
Here are some categories of games.
- Action Games
- Fighting Games
- Adventure Games
- Simulation Games
- Strategy Games
Remember beating up bad guys? Or hacking and slashing them in games? These type of games are often called “Action Games”. Basically this game centers around a protagonist (the main character). We have to face various challenges during gameplay.
Fighting Games, as the name goes it is about fighting! It may base on the platform or battle royale (Last remaining player will win). Also, this category includes survival games where waves of enemies will come at you and you have to defeat them all or you will lose the game. This kind of computer game tests the player’s patience very much and my opinion is it also needs much of concentration and decision making in a quick time. The game players require to make quick decisions on whether to go offensive or defensive way.
Adventure games are very much popular among gamers these days. Also can be referred to as RPG (Role Playing Games) and this category is basically centered on a storyline which is mostly a fictional one. This category can be also divided into ‘Action role-playing’ and ‘Tactical role-playing’. This type of game also tests player’s decision-making ability as in most modern games decision making is very much critical because some small decisions we take in the game, will make a huge impact on the final outcome of the story.
Then there are Simulation games that are focusing on a more different approach than the above-mentioned categories. They have built focused on certain sections after doing some serious amount of researches. There are construction management, life simulation, and sports simulation. These gaming mechanics give the player so much amount of knowledge in that particular field.
Strategy games offer you a very different experience as you need to be tricky to play them. As the name suggests it’s about strategies and players required to apply the right strategies at the right time. Players need to understand most of the game, unlike others in order to beat more advanced levels in the game.
Today game developers tend to build a game as a combination of the above categories to enhance the player experience and to create advanced gameplay. Let’s talk about more about gaming from our next article.
