Far Cry 2: Review

From today’s article, we are going to talk about Far Cry 2, the second installment of the popular Far Cry series. This game released back in 2008 as a first-person shooter game. The game was published by Ubisoft, 4 years after the initial Far Cry game.

Gameplay in Far Cry 2

As you may know, Far Cry is an open-world game like all other games in the franchise. Players can select any of the in-game factions to join and play missions for them. Players can use various vehicles to travel within the in-game terrain. The game place in African landscapes which contains jungles, savannah, and deserts.

As we said, many factions included the game. Each faction has different motives and behaviors. Furthermore, the day-night cycle and dynamic weather conditions included in the game. This greatly enhances the player experience in combat also. For example, in the day time, the player will be easier to detect for the hostiles than at night times.

The player carries a limited number of first aid items to heal from wounds. These are called syrettes. These items can be used to completely heal from wounds and can be found in several buildings. Without these first aids, the player has to do first aid on himself, like removing bullets or snapping broken fingers into the right positions.

Special Features in Far Cry 2

As for weapons, like other Far Cry games, this game features many in-game weapons. This includes, pistols, rifles, shotguns, sniper rifles, rocket launchers, and machine guns. The player is only able to carry 3 weapons at a given time with a machete as a melee weapon. The game features a special gameplay feature, the ‘Degrading weapon system‘. It means the weapons become unusable over time, so the player has to buy guns from the shops most times.

Another major feature is that the player has to deal with malaria. The player must take a pill regularly, in order to prevent blindness and other effects of malaria. Wild animals also appear in the game, but unlike other Far Cry games, no threatening animals can be found.

A multiplayer mode is also included in Far Cry 2. Like most multiplayer modes, this contains game types like, Capture the Diamond (More like capture the Flag), Death-matches, and Uprising (Leader Based).

Base Plot

Far Cry 2 sets in a Central African State currently entangled in a terrible civil conflict. There are two factions, United Front for Liberation and Labour (UFLL) and the Alliance for Popular Resistance (APR) fighting for power in a ruthless way.

The primary objective of the player to kill ‘The Jackal’, an arms dealer who sells weapons to both factions. The player needs to achieve this goal at any cost. The player has to complete a number of missions to reach Jackal witnessing ruthless wars and betrayals.

Conclusion

Far Cry 2 is a very successful game. It has received 85% from Metacritic which should present you with an idea about the game’s success. The game is fairly old, still, it’s a great game at that time. Frankly, this game set the foundation for the succeeding games that came in the series which also became fascinating games.
