From today’s article, we are looking at the Far Cry 3 game. The third major installment in the famous Far Cry franchise of Ubisoft. The first-person shooter game from Ubisoft Montreal is arguably the best game of the series so far. The game was released back in 2012, 4 years after the successful Far Cry 2 game. The game contains so many good and similar gameplay elements from its predecessors. Far Cry 3 really is the game which made the franchise a greater one among the gaming community.
Basic Gameplay in Far Cry 3
Like I mentioned earlier, this game is a first-person shooter game. It’s the game category which refers to the games that we can’t see the playable character’s full body. And also this game is an open-world game so the gamer is able to travel to many places as his choices. The game is set on a fictional tropical archipelago named ‘Rook Islands’ controlled by drug obsessed pirates and mercenaries. The main character and the playable character, Jason Brody needs to find his way through to rescue his kidnapped friends by serving various types of enemies and wild animals. As I mentioned earlier, the game has many similarities to its previous game. However, there are several new aspects we can find out too.
Special Features We Can Find
Unlike Far Cry 2, the degrading weapon system is no longer available in this game. The player can now optimize their weapons with attachments and paints which makes the game much cooler. As usual, the player has access to various weapons of bows, assault rifles, sniper rifles, rocket launchers, explosives, grenades, and many others.

This is the first Far Cry game which allows the player to craft items such as weapon holsters or armor to increase the syringes slots, other ammunition, and so on. Crafting materials are the skins of the wild animals and medicinal herbs collected from the jungle. Player must explore the terrain as the player need ‘skill points’ to unlock new abilities to enhance Jason’s capabilities in hunting and stealth takedowns (Spider), long-range takedowns (Heron), and Assualt takedowns and health upgrades (Shark).

Skill points can be obtained from killing enemies, liberating hostile outposts, completing main and submissions and, climbing radio towers. Climbing Radio towers also reveal the map and show new activities to do. (This is the first game we see the ‘Ubisoft-towers’ concept in Far Cry series). So there are plenty of side activities to do while you playing the main plot. Speaking of the story, the game has an amazing storyline.
The Base Story in Far Cry 3
The story begins with a group of people who were on a vacation to celebrate Jason Brody’s (The protagonist) younger brother, Riley’s receiving a pilot’s license. The tragedy starts when a skydiving trip, they land on the Rook Islands which is run by pirates, slave traders, and vicious mercenaries. The group was kidnapped by Vaas Montenegro (A pirate leader) who intends to sell them into slavery. Jason and his elder brother, Grant tries to escape from Vass’s prison. Jason escapes from the prison and escapes from the prison but ultimately, Vaas kills Grant in the process.

Jason is rescued by Dennis who is an ally of the island’s native people named ‘Rakyat’. After that Jason begins his journey to rescue his friends from Vaas and his pirates. With the help of Dr. Earnhardt (A botanist) and a Rakyat priestess, Citra, and, a CIA agent Wills Huntley, Jason starts his Journey. Step by Step weakening enemies, Jason rescues all of his remaining friends including, Daisy (Grant’s girlfriend), Liza (Jason’s girlfriend), Kieth and Oliver (Jason’s Friends), and finally his brother Riley Brody.

After finish off Vaas, Jason finds out about a man named Hoyt Volker who was behind the Vaas’s pirates. After that Jason goes after Hoyt who holds Riley as a hostage. Several missions working as a missionary under Hoyt, Jason deals with him and ending his crime empire. And finally, the player needs to take a huge decision at the end of the story which makes the game is more interesting.
Conclusion
The game has received great review scores from the gaming community. Metacritic offered 88% for PC score and 90% for PS3. It’s an amazing amount of score considering many other games. I’m pretty sure that many people who played this game weren’t disappointed at all. Yes, it’s from 2012, but it is a game you must play.
