After our article about ‘The Sims Franchise‘, we decided to go to the good old days and talk about this game. So today’s topic is ‘The Sims 2’ the game which raised the game series into glory. As you may know ‘The Sims 2’ is a life simulation game created by Maxis and published by Electronic Arts. As you guess, this is the second main game of the series coming after the initial game, ‘The Sims’.

Gameplay in The Sims 2

The game’s main concept is very much familiar with the other games in the other games in the series. The player has the privilege of controlling one or more virtual people (named as ‘Sims’) and lead their lives to a particular goal.

In this game, there is no particular end. It’s called the open-ended game (you can play the game forever). All Sims have 8 needs (As you can see in the above picture) and the player must keep those needs in check or the sim will not be live well.

At the beginning of the game, the player can create (Character Customization is enabled) a Sim and a lot to start the Sim’s life or can select an existing Sim to start the game. The game has 3 modes.

  • Live Mode – The default mode which allows the player to control Sim’s daily activities.
  • Buy Mode – Allows the player to buy new items to the household.
  • Build Mode – The mode which allows the player to rebuild the household.

The game has many expansion sets (downloadable content) which enables some extra activities like dates. Some other expansions allow Sims to become supernatural creatures such as Zombies, Vampires, or Werewolves.

Conclusion

The Sims 2 is an old game we should say. The game itself released way back in 2004. Even the official web site is not currently available(Shut down in 2013). However still, the game was a huge success. It has 90% of Metacritic scores. It was an instant commercial success and obtained many awards. For old gamers, this was an unforgettable game.
